Shantikunj is the spiritual and social headquarters of the All World Gayatri Pariwar (AWGP). It was founded in 1971 in Haridwar and has since been a focal point for the global Yug Nirman Yojana (Movement for the Reconstruction of the Era) movement for moral-spiritual regeneration in the light of ancient Indian history. It is also a tourist attraction and a location of spiritual advice for visitors and seekers of spiritual direction since it is located on the banks of the holy Ganges and between the Shivalik mountains of the Himalayas.
Pt. Shriram Sharma Acharya founded Shantikunj in 1971 on a tiny plot of land. It later grew to encompass a huge region known as Gayatri Nagar. Under his direction, a number of higher-level spiritual practise camps were held here. Brahmavarchas Shodh Sansthan, a satellite campus located 1/2 kilometre south, was established in 1979. (Research Institute). Thousands of devotees attended the Sharaddhanjali samaroh (1990) held here in honour of Acharya. Gayatrikunj, a 1/2-kilometer-northern campus, was added in 1998. It is now the Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya's campus. The Srijan Sankalp Vibhuti Mahayajna was held here in November 2000 to commemorate the completion of the 12-year Yugsandhi Mahapurashcharan, which drew 4 million worshippers. H.H. Dalai Lama, Mahatma Anand Swami of Arya Samaj, Swami Ramdev, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat (vice president of India), famous environmentalist Sundarlal Bahuguna, Murari Baapu, Abdul Kalam, Harish Rawat, PM Narendra Modi, Former President Pranab Mukherjee, and many other saints, leaders, and scholars have all visited Shantikunj. Shantikunj is currently run by the Shri Vedmata Gayatri Trust, which is led by Mrs. Shailbala Pandya, Pt. Shriram Sharma Acharya's daughter.
| Daily Activities | At 3:30 a.m., the daily practise begins with a group prayer, followed by
special "Gayatri Mantra chanting and sun meditation" and Akhand
Deepak darshan. Every morning, a yagna is held at the ashrams of the Rishis,
which reminds one of the Vedic days. Every visitor and resident is provided
with two complimentary meals. Lectures, practicals, and field work are planned
in the mornings and afternoons for various types of training programmes. The
Jyoti Avadharan Sadhana and the Nad Yoga Sadhana are two different types of
meditations that are done for 15 minutes each in the afternoon and morning. |
