LUBAINA KALARI

Kalaripayattu has a centuries-long tradition, and the Lubaina Kalari was founded in 1959 by the late Abdullakutty Gurukkal. Abdullakutty Gurukkal was born in 1941 in Kerala's Palakkad district, and he learned kalari from his father when he was four years old. He then studied under his uncle Kunju Muhammad Gurukkal, and subsequently under the Veteran Ponnani Bappu Gurukkal, renowned as the King of Kerala Kalarippayattu. He studied central style Kalarippayattu under Bappu Gurukkal before travelling to Batkal, Karnataka to learn Tulu Kalarippayattu by Abduk Khadar Gurukkal. In Thalassery, Kerala, he founded the Lubaina Kalari. When he was 18, he opened his first branch in Kerala. After establishing a number of branches in northern Kerala, he chose to limit the Kalari to the district of Ernakulam and established Kalari branches throughout the district. Over the course of 40 years, he gained over 5000 followers, including the Father of Indian Karate, Moses Thilak. He died in 1999, at the age of 58, after 40 years as Kalari Gurukkal. Abdul Jaleel Gurukkal was born in the Kerala district of Palakkad in 1966. He has been studying traditional Kalaripayattu of the central style for approximately 25 years and has been teaching regular Kalaripayattu lessons in Ernakulam for the past 20 years. His father and forefathers are Kalaripayattu and Marma Chikilsa veterans, and he comes from a Kalaripayattu family. He took over the Lubaina Kalari after his father, the famed Abdullkutty Gurukkal. He began practising Kalari with his father when he was four years old, and later went on to teach with Beeran Gurukkal, Edappal Hassan Gurukkal, and Valapattanam Hassankutti Gurukkal. He is the current Kalari Asan (trainer) of the Ernakulam Regional Sports Centre.

     KALARI PAYATT

Abdul Jaleel is the second generation of masters in the Lubaina Kalari tradition, and a direct disciple of Abdullakutty gurukkal. Abdul Jaleel, who was born into a family of ferocious warriors in the Malabar region, received significant training in the traditional Madhya kerala kalam chavittu Kalaripayattu and excelled in the age-old healing technique of Marma Chikilsa at a young age. He was an enthusiastic traveller and philosopher who spent years travelling across Kerala and Karnataka to meet great teachers and acquire various approaches in the art.

    KALARI CLASSES

Kalaripayttu is a valuable contribution from the old martial art legacy to Kerala's arts and sports culture. Kalari is a traditional Kerala cultural symbol. It takes a lifetime to study and practise this art form, but owing to modern-day demands, we have distinguished and developed a few short-term courses for motivated students from all over the world. Kalaripayattu is classified as follows: Maythari (body conditioning), Kolthari (stick/Bo staff control), Ankathari (weapon training), Verum Kai (free hand combact). These are further subdivided into more specific segments.

    MARMA CHIKILTSA

Marma is a Sanskrit word that means "hidden" or "secret" in Sanskrit. It refers to the confluence points of consciousness in the body.
Marmas are critical spots on the human body that can be adjusted to either cure or harm the body. These locations react to various patterns of muscle use, movement, and breathing. Only an experienced master can effectively apply it during treatments because it requires years of practise and dedication to truly master the craft. Back discomfort (IVDP), Tennis Elbow Frozen Shoulder, Cervical Spondylosis Osteoarthritis, DISLOCATION (legs, hands, shoulder, knee), and other conditions can be treated with marma chikilsa.

    MADHYA KALARI (CENTRAL STYLE)

The Madhya Kalari (centre style) is a distinct variation on the ancient art of
kalaripayattu that emphasises physical agility, body strength, and stamina.
This is accomplished by the intensive practise of chuvadu movements
(steps). Exercises are used in the training to help improve quick reflexes,
flexibility, and body strength. The mysterious Central Style footwork
patterns can take any shape, from a straight line to a square, even an
octagonal and above. The Central Style is suited for a multiple opponent
attack due to its footwork (chuvadu) and the body strength and flexibility
developed. Self-defense, unarmed combat, and combat techniques involving
staff, sword, urumi, and shields are developed in the preceding footwork
    patterns.

    PINK SHIELD

    Self Defence Classes for Ladies
Pink Shield was initially established as a means of promoting the ancient art
of Kalaripayattu among the general public, particularly ladies. We intended
to establish the mental process in children at a young age. Schools and
universities were the ideal places to begin. During the procedure, they
understood that there was a much higher demand for time, which was self-
defense instruction for women. In a state with a high female-to-male ratio, it
was discovered that very few women embraced martial arts training
seriously, let alone kalaripayattu. As a result, teaching and motivating young
women in our state became the primary goal. Lubaina Kalari led by Shri
Abdul Jaleel Gurukal, compiled a set of unique tactics from this ancient art
form that can be used to outwit an opponent in real time. Pink Shield has
evolved into a social awareness campaign as well as our societal
    responsibility.
