Kaivalyadhama began at a home rented in Lonavla by Prabha Shankar Patni, the then-Dewan of Bhavnagar. It was founded in 1924 by Swami Kuvalayananda. We teach and practise the Ashtanga Yoga of Patanjali, the eighth-century yogic seer. With a college, a health centre, asana halls, ayurveda and naturopathy facilities, and philosophical and scientific research departments, the site presently spans 170 acres of parkland.
Swami Kuvalayananda founded Kaivalyadhama at Lonavla, Maharashtra, India, in 1924. Until his death in 1966, Swami Kuvalayananda oversaw the institution, which was largely utilised to promote his scientific studies into the yogic arts. Swami Kuvalayananda launched Kaivalyadhama in 1924, and it produces the quarterly Yoga Mimamsa magazine. The Philosophico-Literary Research Department was founded in 1944 with the goal of studying the interpretation and translation of classic yogic writings. The GordhandhasSeksaria College of Yoga and Cultural Synthesis was founded in 1951 to assist others in learning the theoretical and practical components of yoga.GordhandasSeksaria, the father of donor ShethMakhanlalGordhandasSeksaria, a philanthropist and businessman, was the inspiration for the college's name. In October 1951, the institution was formally launched by Shri B. G. Kher, the then Chief Minister of Bombay State. The inaugural convocation was conducted in May 1953, and the convocational address was given by Shri H.V. Divetia, Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat University. The Indian Ministry of Education designated Kaivalyadhama as a "All India Institute of Higher Education" in 1962. It was designated as a national resource centre for the introduction of yoga in schools by India's Human Resource Development Ministry in 2004. In the year 2019, the Government of India's Yoga Certification Board under the Ministry of AYUSH declared Kaivalyadhama a "Leading Yoga Institution".

One of the rare instructors who teaches Pranayama using a classical methodology, combining scientific thinking with ancient knowledge. He is a modest guy who does not strive to prove anything, but instead passes on the ancient practise of Yoga with honesty and sincerity.
Swami Maheshananda is a renunciate, which indicates that he has given up all earthly possessions and that the past has been "burned away," meaning that nothing can be known about it. Swami Maheshananda is the Spiritual Leader and Chairman of Kaivalyadhama at the moment. He lives simply in the Kaivalyadhama Ashram Kuti, where he performs Agnihotra (fire ceremonial and Vedi) every morning and evening.
