Chinmaya Mission

The Chinmaya Mission is a Hindu religious and spiritual organisation dedicated to spreading Vedanta, or self-knowledge, as taught in the Vedas, especially the Upanishads, and other Hindu writings such as the Bhagavad Gita. The Chinmaya Mission was founded in India in 1953 by disciples of Swami Chinmayananda Saraswati, a prominent Vedanta teacher from present-day Kerala.

The founder of Chinmaya Mission, Swami Chinmayananda Saraswati, was born in Ernakulam, Kerala, India. He emphasised spirituality as a way of life. He stressed the balance of brain and heart via jnana yoga (the Vedantic path of spiritual understanding), emphasising altruistic labour, study, and meditation as pillars of spiritual practise. Balakrishna Menon, who had doubts about the teachings of the Himalayan sages, met Swami Sivananda (Divine Life Society), who first led him in spiritual studies and then placed him under the tutelage of Swami Tapovanam (Tapovan Maharaj), with whom he studied spirituality for nine years. In the shape of the energetic teacher known as Swami Chinmayananda, he finally came to share this Vedantic wisdom with the public. Swamiji is a Srimad Bhagavad Gita instructor. He is credited with the revival of spirituality and cultural values in India, as well as the global propagation of Advaita Vedanta, as preached by Adi Shankaracharya. After Chinmayananda Chinmayananda's student Swami Tejomayananda (known as Guruji) became the worldwide leader of Chinmaya Mission after he reached mahasamadhi in 1993. Projects like the Chinmaya International Foundation and the Chinmaya International Residential School were launched under Guruji's leadership. Swami Tejomayananda appointed Sri Swami Swaroopananda as the leader of Chinmaya Mission Worldwide in January 2017.

Courses	Yes Courses Vedanta is a holy and ancient tradition that is passed down through generations in gurukulas. ‘Kula' means family in Sanskrit, while ‘guru' means instructor. A gurukula is a community of pupils and gurus that live together as a family. Students may learn not only from their teacher's words, but also from the teacher's everyday life, thanks to this method of continual contact between them. The Chinmaya Mission's Youth Empowerment Programme (YEP) is a value-based leadership programme for young graduates who are passionate about learning Indian culture and serving their nation. Swami Chinmayananda's magnificent vision of youth with energy, excitement, and a sense of possibility gave birth to YEP. The Dharma Sevak Course at Chinmaya Mission is a six-week residential Vedanta course aimed especially at householders interested in in-depth textual studies. The training, which is aimed at individual inner change, helps students to gain spiritual wisdom and share it with society as committed sevaks of dharma, because “dharmenadharyatelokah” (dharma is what keeps the world going). The beauty and richness of Indian culture are recognised across the world. The Indian traditions have either a scientific or a spiritual basis.The theoretical component of religion is philosophy, whereas the practical aspect is rituals. Individuals can build an integrated personality via selfless service, puja, sandhya-vandanam, and other practises. However, in order to have the intended impact, these must be carried out with the necessary knowledge and trust. Swami Chinmayananda pioneered a novel approach to learning the core of Vedanta at home, in the form of simple lectures delivered without the need of books. He created this course specifically for different sorts of students all around the world who want to develop their personalities subjectively without interfering with their official, social, or home obligations.

Who is eligible to join Chinmaya Mission?
